Nuad Boran is one-to-one assisted therapeutic stretching and other healing techniques refined over centuries in Thailand. It was developed and practiced for many generations exclusively in monasteries to ensure that the practitioners had the proper foundation of ethical living and meditative awareness. Although today not all practitioners are monks, my teacher received the tradition from his master in this authentic way, and he passed it in the same way to me. Our years of yoga practice have helped provide the required ethical and meditative foundation. The treatment is not massage as most people think of it, but it is deeply relaxing and therapeutic. The treatment begins with the client reclining on their back, just relaxing, and the techniques begin at the feet, and gradually incorporate the entire body. Each session is typically 90 minutes, afterward recipients often report profound relaxation and sense of well-being and the effects can last quite some time.
BACKGROUND, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Karl Straub was introduced to therapeutic bodywork in 1985, at age 19, and in 2001 he met Jonas Westring, a Swedish physiotherapist and yogi, who has a home in Chiang Mai, Thailand. This meeting had a profound impact on him. Westring emphasized the natural connections between yoga and the ancient Thai Healing Practice of Nuad Boran. After Karl experienced it he wanted to study and master it. He studied with Westring for several years in NYC and Massachusetts, earned certificates of completion in his professional training courses (Level 1 & 2) as well as advanced study (Level 3), and he also assisted Westring in a number of other trainings and workshops. Jonas Westring authorized Karl in 2011 (after 12 years of training and extensive private practice) to train qualified individuals in Europe.
